HEAP
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded program administered by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). HEAP helps eligible Ohio households pay heating and cooling costs by providing a benefit that is applies directly to a utility or bulk fuel account.
The amount of assistance is based on:
– Household size
– Household income
– Heating or cooling source
– Geographic region of residence
Who is eligible for HEAP?
Ohioans with a household income at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines may qualify for HEAP.
Eligibility Requirements:
– Report total gross household income for the previous 12 months
– Include income for all household members
– Wage or salary income earned by dependent minors under age 18 is excluded
– Both homeowners and renters may qualify

How To Apply
HEAP Summer Crisis applicants must schedule an appointment with an Energy Assistance Provider to submit applications and required documents between July 1st and September 30th.
Traditional HEAP applicants may choose from the following options:
Option 1: Apply Online
Complete the Energy Assistance Program application through the Apply for Ohio Energy Assistance Programs | Ohio Department of Job & Family Services
Option 2: Apply by Mail

Option 3: In-Person Appointment
Schedule an appointment with a Community Assistance Provider to submit your application and supporting documents.

Paper Applications
– Paper applications are available at the AAA9 office or by calling 1-800-945-4250. Remember: You must submit your completed application to a Community Assistance Provider.
Please allow processing time: Applications submitted online or by mail may take up to 12 weeks to process.

Required Documentation
– Proof of citizenship for each household member
– Proof of income for each household member (previous 30 days or previous 12 months)
– Copies of your most recent utility bills
– Disability verification (if applicable)
